Applications to Art Düsseldorf are open to galleries that have a permanent exhibition space and hold regular exhibitions with a roster of represented artists.

Selection for participation is based on the curatorial strength and premise of the gallery’s application proposal, exhibition program and roster of represented artists. Criteria such as quality of the artworks (only artworks created after 1945 can be permitted), previous art fair presentations, and any associated projects undertaken by the gallery are central to the Jury’s decision. For review purposes, the Art Düsseldorf Jury* requires a short but clear text description of the proposed presentation at the fair, supporting images, and preferably a provisional sketch of the booth layout. Submitting a booth sketch for galleries applying for the first time is mandatory.

The following sections and booth categories** are offered:

    • MAIN (booths are 40-60 sqm or 60-80 sqm or 80-100 sqm or 100-120 sqm or 120-150 sqm)
    • JOINT (booths are 40-60 sqm or 60-80 sqm)
Please note that two galleries applying to the JOINT section must individually submit an application, and provide a joint booth proposal.
    • NEXT (booths have 25 sqm)
Please note that the NEXT section is exclusively to up and coming galleries in existence for 1 to 10 years at the time of application. It focuses on current works by emerging artists and allows for up to three artistic positions. Only a maximum of 12 galleries are admitted by the Jury to this section.
    • SOLO AND PROJECTS (booths have 30 sqm)
The SOLO AND PROJECTS section is open to either an individual presentation by one artist/artistic collective or a very special project. When applying to this section, the presentation must relate to one of the following thematic focuses:
    1) LIMINAL STATE: Describes art that deals with intermediate states, transitions and processes of dissolution. In this threshold nature and potentiality of art, nothing is fixed, but everything is possible. Liminal states combine crisis and hope, past, present and future. Topics such as artificial intelligence, environmental issues, potentials and transformations can be negotiated.
    2) LOVE IS THE ANSWER: Art by and for lovers, full of euphoria and feelings of happiness, but on the other hand also marked by frustration and broken hearts – in other words, the entire spectrum of love as artists feel, reflect and process it. Please note that only a maximum of 10 galleries are admitted by the Jury to this section.

In order to start with your application, please log in. If applying for the first time, please register to start your application process. A confirmation email is then sent to you. A non-refundable 400 € application fee will be collected upon final confirmation of application (at the very end of your application) via our online payment portal.

The whole application process only needs approximately 10-15 minutes, if your short text(s) and your booth sketch have been prepared in advance.

We look very much forward to your application!
